If your doctor suspects a collapsed lung, he or she will perform a complete physical examination, paying particular attention to your vital signs, appearance, and heart and breath sounds. A chest x-ray is the most conclusive test for diagnosing a collapsed lung; however, sometimes a CT Scan may be needed if the collapsed lung is small or if lung disease is extensive.Your doctor may also check the level of oxygen in your blood via a pulse oximeter or by performing an arterial blood gas analysis of your blood.
